Doctor Who 50th Anniversary and Cineplex

The 50th Anniversary of Doctor Who is coming up in less than a month, and when I had heard that they were going to simulcast the episode in 3D in certain theatres, I was super excited. One such theatre was in Toronto, less than two hours from home. This meant that Annie and I, had an opportunity to check it out in an amazing venue.

Unfortunately, Cineplex, with lack of insight into the size of the fan-base, only scheduled one simulcast showing on one screen. This meant that in less than two days, the seats in Toronto were sold out. Annie, her friends and I had missed our opportunity to see it on the big screen at the same time as the rest of the world was to see it at home.

Since it was early in the afternoon, I feel like they could have done a wider release and really sold a great deal of tickets. They do have showings Monday evening, but that’s two and a half days since the worldwide airing of the episode. While it would be neat to see it on the big screen, there is no way that I could avoid spoilers for that long.

Oh well… We will probably end up having a small party at a friend’s place on the day of to see it when the rest of the world sees it. I’m not complaining as it will be fun, and pretty much anywhere I go, I’ll have access to a bigger screen than I have at home, but I am saddened that I won’t be one of the lucky few to see it on the big screen.
