People really don’t understand how difficult it is to work remotely. My schedule is flexible. I am not trying to put in a set amount of time per day, or meet any specific metrics, and as such, most of my day is based on a feeling of completion. A feeling that I’m getting enough work done. My feeling of productivity is directly tied to my stress and happiness and this summer has been very stressful for me.
It just seems like the whole summer, I’ve only been producing at around 50-80% what I’m normally able to do and I’ve been very frustrated about this.
I don’t think most people understand how difficult it is to work from home and can’t even begin to provide proper suggestions and ideas on how to increase my satisfaction in this regard. Just because I can work anywhere, doesn’t mean I can be productive everywhere. Just had to get that off my chest.
Update: I feel bad about this post. I don’t want anyone to think that they are the reason why my productivity is low. This summer has been different from previous summers because I have a huge family to interact with, a fiancee who has the summers off, and a small bachelor apartment that hasn’t really been exceptionally conducive to working.
Add all these things up, and no wonder things are difficult. I’m learning fast, and I’ll get it sorted out, and back to peak soon, but it has been frustrating feeling like I’m not doing enough for the company that I work for.
